School competition Yverdons

The project explored light and weight for the design of the extension of the Pestalozzi school in Yverdon.  Competition entryin collaboration with Cesar Besada

 
 

light and air

Light is explored as a conecting element of the three main functions in this building.  It is composed of a sports hall on the ground floor and rythmic rooms floating above this element.

 

ventilation

the spaces between the blocks not only bathed the central gym building in natural zenital light, the compression created between the blocks, orientated in the direction of the wind created an effective natural ventilation system by accentuating the upward pull of the air from the main gymnasium floor.

 

Feature 3

The sober building creates shaded areas for student interaction outdoors, protected from the rain, facing the castle of Yverdons.
